Chapter 6
In this chapter Isabel meets Curzon who asks her to spy on the Locktons.
Chapter 7
After Isabel gets water from the pumps and finally arrives at the Lockton manor she meets Becky. Becky shows Isabel around the house. Isabel is worried about Ruth but gets reassured when she sees her sister peeling potatoes.
Chapter 8
Isabel is very mad that her sister is getting turned into a curiosity by Madam Lockton. Upon seeing Isabel's clenched hands that Madam Lockton had already hurt a slave badly. To this Isabel responds that she will protect herself.
Chapter 9
When Isabel gets introduced to lady Seymor, Madam Lockton changes her name to Sal Lockton. Isabel gets sent to serve Mr. Lockton who very late in his conversation with his friends reveals the money to be used against the rebels.
Chapter 10
Later that day, before they went to sleep, Isabel was curious as to why her sister Ruth was crying earlier. Isabel asked her: “What is wrong? Why were you crying when I came into the parlor? Ruth didn't answer but her eyes were full of tears. Did Mrs. Lockton hurt you Ruth? She didn't answer all she said was shhhh. Isabel knew it; she knew that Mrs. Lockton did hurt her. While Ruth was asleep Isabel snuck to Curzon’s house and knocked on the window. She was so scared because no one answered. She thought that it wasn't Curzons window but he talked to her from a nearby tavern. Isabel didn't recognize him as it was very dark. She told him everything about Lockton. When he asked about the money she said she was send for wine so she didn't see where they stowed the money.
Chapter 11
In this chapter several patriots come to the Lockton house and start tearing down windows. When Mr. Lockton wants to know what’s going on, he gets told that they are looking for lead. The real reason though is that they are trying to prove that the Lockton’s work for the enemy. In the end the patriots leave only with Mr. Lockton arrested, but without the evidence.
