Chapters 25-30
Chapter 25 summary
In this chapter, Isabel is still sad because her sister has been sold away by Mrs. Lockton who cannot even look Isabel in the eyes. Curzon is still trying to ask Isabel to be a spy, but Isabel just walks away from him, and Mrs. Lockton wants him to leave. Isabel tells him she will not be a spy, and she will never talk to him again.
Chapter 26
In this chapter, Isabel has to go the water pump, but before she went, she had cut herself with a blade at breakfast, and she could not carry the empty bucket as it hurt. There are a lot of people there talking about the British Lord promising freedom. While they were talking, Curzon appeared, and he joined the talk, he said Master Bellingham will give him freedom if he enlisted in his stead, but all the people were telling him that is a lie. When Isabel walks back to her house, Curzon chased her, and helped her to carry the full bucket, but he did not say a word.
Chapter 27
In this chapter, Mrs. Lockton is waiting to see the final British victory, and Isabel and Becky are discussing the war too. They discussed about how Washington had melted the church bells to make cannons. Becky is telling Isabel what she saw when she passed the campgrounds, and she tried to describe every detail she saw. Meanwhile Isabel is scared for Curzon.
Chapter28
In this chapter, the war is still far from ending. Mrs. Lockton wants Isabel to get some stuff from the shop to celebrate the British victory. Isabel did not want to do it, but she has an Idea that she could just join the British and go home. She first hides in a house that is without windows, after some time several slaves came by, Curzon was not among them.
Chapter 29
At the start of this chapter, the war is temporarily stopped, the wreckage of the war is everywhere in the city. Isabel is struggling to decide whether she will join the rebels or not. Finally she ot her chance as she met an officer and told him that she could work for their army for free. But he did not agree, and he told her to go back to Mrs. Lockton's house. Also Mr. Lockton comes out of hiding.
Chapter 30
The British have just taken over New York and are finding lodging for their soldiers. Lady Seymor has managed to get several Hessian’s into her household and requires help. Isabel is sent to help. In the end of the chapter it tells of an inferno.
